Jenny Williamson's War - part 1

Where to start this tale? Where did it all begin? It's a question I've asked myself a lot since I decided to write this down. There are many points that I could have chosen. I could have started it back during the early 2000s when a world wide recession hit, when businesses where going under, unemployment was rising and living standards started to fall. They'd been hard enough days for me and my family, scraping by on a food budget of a pound a day per person for more than a year. It had been hard, there'd been days when I wondered how I'd keep body and soul together, despite bringing in a full time wage. The only difference was we expected it to end, that the economy would turn the corner and good times would be here again. And slowly it did. However in its wake the political parties espoused a policy, that soon became a near cult like dogma, of austerity. Jenny Wiliamson's War - near future spec fic - preface

Preface . I have always had an interest in writing and history.  As a child I'd spent my time with my head buried in books or writing things down. It seems a lifetime ago now and I suppose as I enter my seventy-third year that is precisely what it is. All that writing never came to anything more than a few piles of battered old notebooks crammed with half finished stories and drawings.   Adulthood came and left little time for those hobbies. Work and my life as a wife and mother seemed to fill all available moments of my days and nights. Now however I have the time once more. Perhaps nobody much will be interested in this old women's words, but it feels more important than ever to get them written down. There are many books and dramatisations of those troubled times that filled my middle aged years and whose impact is still keenly felt as I head into old age. What's all this about?

For anybody finding this blog and wondering what it's all about. This blog is home to my short stories, flash fiction and random musings. Some of it was written years ago, some is new and of course some of it is yet to be written or even thought of. All the fiction here will be of a speculative and/or near future type. Although I might branch into alternative history occasionally. Thematically there will often be a dystopian or political element to it.  Some pieces might be stand alone fiction, some might all be set in the same interconnected future, while others maybe multi part or continuing stories. I will tag them as such when they are posted. As for me I've been writing since I was a child back in the 80's - I've never been published, but it's never been about that, although maybe one day it would be nice. The thing is I've are so many ideas I thought I just get them out there and see what people think.
